DMC World Championship 2008 / Dj Fly / Dj Switch

This year’s head to head Battle for World Supremacy was won by the UK’s very own DJ Switch who beat France’s DJ Nelson using his high quality scratching and intimidation skills to bag himself $10,000 of cash from Ortofon, the DMC Gold Disc Award and a RANE TTM57 mixer.

Frenchman DJ Fly scooped the solo title at the comp, taking home Technics Gold turntables and mixer and $10,000. [Mixmag]

DJ Mag / Top 100 DJ’s 2008 / Will BlogHouse Win?

It’s that time of year again to clean out your room… NOT! It’s time to vote for your favorite DJ of 2008. Who will top this year’s chart? Who will be rejected by DJmag for not playing by the rules?

Since the last Top 100 DJ poll house and bands have been evolving and recreating. Creating what I thought was electro house then soon turned electronic and the real kicker here ‘BlogHouse’! WTF? One has to ask are the Crookers as much as a dj like Paul Van Dyke or BadBoyBill?

If this DJmag poll starts to circulate like a tornado in the blog era, we might see some unfamiliar DJ and genres on the top of the charts.

Beatportal.com

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

I said it before and I’ll say it again Beatport is taking over. On March 18th registered users of Beatport.com will have the chance to vote in the first annual Beatport Music Awards. Fans, DJs, and clubbers will click and vote on 19 categories, 18 which will range from Best Electro House Artist, Best Trance Artist, and Best Single of 2007 based on Beatport sales. The final category asks members to name the most influential, forward-thinking person in electronic music.

The voting results plan to be posted via Beatportal.com at the end of April (no official date yet). DeadMau5 managed to take the lead racking up four Beatport nominations with Thomas Gold on his back with three.

///////// WOW is the word. Beatport has once again opened up new doors to their online digital world. As if Beatportal.com, Beatsource.com and major marketing endeavors weren’t enough they have managed to squeeze out a annual music awards. Beatport mission is clear, to take over the world. I’d say they are doing a helluva good job doing it. Leaving long time online music players in the dust, like Dancerecords.com and djDownload.com.
